Wastewater specialist Universal Tankers has formally announced its sponsorship of the RNLI with the unveiling of a newly branded drinking water tanker dedicated to the lifesaving charity. The launch event took place at Hoylake Lifeboat Station, celebrating the beginning of a long-term commitment to supporting the RNLI’s mission to save lives at sea.
As part of its pledge, Universal Tankers has made an initial £5,000 donation, followed by a promise to contribute £500 each month for a minimum of 12 months. Customers are also encouraged to make optional donations to the RNLI with every drinking water order placed.
Universal Tanker Solutions Managing Director, Simon Gunn, said: “The RNLI’s work resonates deeply with many of us at Universal, particularly those with military and maritime backgrounds. Their commitment to saving lives is remarkable. We’re proud to play a part in helping them continue their work, and the tanker is a visible symbol of that support on roads across the country.”
The event was attended by a wide range of guests, including the Mayor of St. Helens, Cllr Jeanette Banks, and the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Mr. Mark Blundell. Also present were RNLI crew members and their families, Universal team members, suppliers, valued customers, and graduates from Tom Harrison House – a specialist addiction recovery centre for military veterans and their families.
Guests were welcomed with a speech from representatives of both Universal Tankers and the RNLI, followed by the dramatic return of Hoylake’s cutting-edge Shannon Class lifeboat to base. Attendees explored the lifeboat station and its machinery, learned about the station’s long and proud history, and enjoyed handmade pizza and artisan gelato.
The company will continue its fundraising efforts throughout the year, with events planned at the Royal Cheshire County Show and beyond.
